The first identity

A = A

The A here can represent any unit. A unit is always equal to itself. This is the first algebraic identity.

This identity is called the reflexive property of equality.

Reflexive means it points back at itself: whatever is on one side, the very same thing is on the other. We write it a = a, and it is true for any number, any unit, anything at all.
