Counting with weights: What you've learned

What you've learned

You finished Counting with weights. Here is what you learned.

  • Counting in binary With weights of 8, 4, 2 and 1 grams you can make every number up to 15, writing 1 for a weight you use and 0 for one you don't.
  • Place values Each place is worth twice the place to its right: 8, 4, 2, 1.
  • Substitution Two D blocks balance one C block, so we can trade one for the other and the scale stays balanced.
  • Carrying When two of the same weight show up, we trade them for one of the next weight up. On paper, that is a carry.
